13 January 2011 Press Statement of the UN Security Council on the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia by H.E. Mr. Ivan Barbalić, Permanent Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the United Nations, in his capacity as the President of the UN Security Council for the month of January 2011
The members of the Security Council welcomed the briefing by Miroslav Jenča, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, on the work of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia over the past six months. The members of the Security Council appreciated the efforts of the Regional Centre as a UN mechanism for preventive diplomacy to assist Central Asian countries in responding to regional challenges, in accordance with its mandate, including with regard to the situation in Kyrgyzstan, the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and solutions to water and energy management through regional cooperation. The members of the Security Council encouraged further cooperation and coordination between the Governments of the region, the Regional Centre, and relevant regional organizations in this regard. The members of the Security Council reaffirmed the need to provide appropriate support to the efforts of the Regional Center to facilitate dialogue and assist the Governments of Central Asia on regional issues of their common concern.
