Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia Celebrate 20 Years of UN Membership
On 22 May, Permanent Representations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia organized an event at the UN Headquarters in New York to mark the 20th anniversary of the countries' UN membership. The countries also organized a photo exhibition illustrating both their natural treasures and their activities within the UN.
Over 200 people, mostly diplomats and members of the UN Secretariat, attended the exhibition opening. Among the participants were UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who gave an introductory speech, and the President of the UN General Assembly, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser. Citizens of the three nations living in New York and the press also took part the opening.
The Permanent Representative of Croatia and the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN held separate speeches outlining the recent history in their countries and their future prospects involving their Euro-Atlantic integration.
Secretary-General Ban commended the three countries for their contributions in peacekeeping, security and their own progress. He expressed his hope to again pay a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia.
