6 April 2010 Mr. Sven Alkalaj, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina met with Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kingdom of Spain
It has been discussed about the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries and they exchanged opinions about the most important international issues. During the talks the special importance was given to the B&H perspectives in the context of European integrations due to the fact that Spain is the presiding country of the EU in the first half of this year and it has taken, from the very beginning, a very active and positive attitude regarding quickening the process of accession of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the EU. Minister Alkalaj expressed his pleasure with the visit of the Spanish Head of Diplomacy to Bosnia and Herzegovina by thanking him for significant support which his country is giving to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its way to European Union. Minister Alkalaj emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina has great expectations from the European Union – Western Balkans Summit that has been initiated by Spain, and which is going to be held in June of 2010 in Sarajevo. Minister Alkalaj informed his Spanish colleague on the current political situation in our country and he pointed out the resolute commitment of the B&H authorities on carrying out reforms towards the European road. Minister Moratinos has emphasized that Spain is truly active on meeting the EU priorities and Western Balkans and B&H are positioned very high on that list. He added that he thought that the June Conference in Sarajevo would be of historical importance, as well as that it would be the opportunity for Bosnia and Herzegovina to express its resolute commitment and dedication to European future. The Heads of Diplomacies of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Spain were also talking about the liberalization of the visa regime for B&H with the EU. Minister Alkalaj has emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina has fulfilled all required preconditions as well as that decision on placing B&H on the White Schengen List, through faster procedures, would be of exquisite importance for B&H and it would significantly contribute to creation of positive atmosphere in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
